I started my career as a BBC Production Secretary on The Archers, then worked at Central Television as a script editor. I then went on to write scripts for ten years, on dramas including Heartbeat, Boon and Holby City. In 2000 I turned to writing fiction, and my latest book, High Tide, will be published on 24 September 2015 by Orion. I live by the sea on the North Devon coast with my sons and Zelda the miniature Schnauzer whirlwind.
OUT 24 SEPTEMBER: Meet the inhabitants of Pennfleet, a small town nestling on a Cornish estuary with a view to die for. As the boats bob in the harbour and summer draws to an end, it’s time for new beginnings. There’s Kate, who has come to clear out her parents’ house and put it on the market, Sam, whose gamble to open a cafe-cum-deli is proving a success, and Nathan, who runs picnic cruises up and down the river. As summer slips into autumn, all of their lives change while the leaves turn from green to gold.
In 2012 I was lucky enough to be writer-in-residence on the Venice Simplon Orient Express, travelling from London to Venice, where I stayed at the world famous Cipriani Hotel. I couldn’t fail to be inspired by this trip of a lifetime, and the result was my eleventh novel, A Night on the Orient Express, which tells the story of a group of passengers on this glamorous journey. I was utterly thrilled when the book went on to win The Romantic Novel of the Year Award 2014.
